The Speech Pathologist focuses on improving speech, language, swallowing, and hearing disorders to overcome disabilities from a variety of causes. The Speech Pathologist participates as a member of the interdisciplinary team providing support and information within the area of Speech Pathology. BLOOD BORNE PATHOGEN EXPOSURE LEVEL: Category II: Tasks that do not normally require personal protective equipment (PPE) but may include job-related requirements to perform Category I tasks unexpectedly or on short notice. Appropriate personal protective equipment is readily available. Tasks do not generally involve exposure to blood, body fluids, or tissue, but employment may require performing unplanned Category I tasks. MANDATORY QUALIFICATIONS (SKILLS, EXPERIENCE, EDUCATION): • Therapist is a graduate of an approved program in Speech/Language Pathology culminating in the receipt of a Master's or Doctoral Degree; and is licensed by the State of Texas and certified by the American Speech/Language/Hearing Association. • Experience preferred in the areas of adult neurological communicative disorders with an emphasis in aphasiology and dysphagia rehabilitation. • Ability to communicate in English DESIRED QUALIFICATIONS: • Membership in the State Speech/Language/Hearing Association • Good verbal and written communication skills. He/She is also responsible fore the overall direction and supervision of all patient care during his/her shift. Demonstrates the knowledge and skill to carry out the nursing process when providing care to patients. Satisfies the established standards of the nursing practice. Supervises and delegates patient care tasks to LVN, CNA, and other patient care team members. Promotes teamwork with physicians and personnel of other departments. As appropriate, the Registered Nurse takes into consideration the patients’ age in the performance of any task.
